Former Formula 1 driver and multiple endurance race winner Emanuele Pirro commented on Stefano Domenicali’s return to Formula 1 as President and CEO.
Emanuele Pirro: “Domenicali differs from Ecclestone in that Bernie was not just a leader, but the owner of Formula 1, and Stefano, unfortunately, is only a leader. But I think that this event is important not only for Formula 1, but also for Italy.
Italians are adept at criticizing compatriots, but it is perhaps equally important to stress that we too can be successful. When an American company, for which business is paramount, appoints an Italian to lead a sport where there is no peace of mind, I think it’s a great honor for us. I am sure that Stefano will cope, also because in Formula 1 he has no enemies – only fans. We must congratulate him and be proud of his achievements.
Stefano will need courage, because the leaders of the Formula 1 teams are peculiar people. Fortunately, Formula 1 now has a decision-making structure. Stefano has a reputation for doing everything for the common good, rather than trying to please specific people. He knows how to mediate and explain that small concessions from one person can help everyone make significant progress. I am sure that he will do a lot for Formula 1. “
