At the FIA press conference in Portimão, Alexander Albon was asked whether he feels the increasing pressure from the leadership of the Red Bull Racing team – at least some of Helmut Marko’s recent statements suggest such thoughts.
Alexander Albon: “No, the situation is not changing, we continue to attack and I feel good support from the team. I can only say that I am fully focused on the remaining races, because I know that I am able to cope well with the challenges ahead of me, and intend to achieve this.
As for the pressure, it is always there, but I do not feel that it has intensified. I just want to have a good next few races. I can’t say that I am inferior to Max in any particular aspect, but indeed, in general, I am losing to him a little.
The most important thing now is to finish the season better. Of course, I want to stay in Red Bull Racing and work hard to achieve this. I have no other aspirations that would be associated with other teams, I try to do everything in my power to achieve good results.
The Nürburgring race confirmed that we are moving in the right direction, we just need to keep working. I think my qualifying results have gradually improved over the course of the season. The races weren’t too bad either, although we still need to work on the starts, because it looks like Renault and Ferrari drivers are better able to get under way.
I always have to recoup, and, of course, at the Nurburgring, after I made a mistake and blocked the wheels, we had to change the entire tactical scheme of the race. As I said, we are moving in the right direction, but first I need to make the starts a little better, and also avoid mistakes during the races. I am sure that then there will be results. “
