It was revealed by Jeffrey Lichtman, one of his defense attorneys. The drug boss is serving a life sentence in the United States.

The one who was the drug trafficker most wanted by the US Government, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, admired to President Donald Trump and considered that former President Barack Obama was “a useless coward”, according to Jeffrey Lichtman, one of his defense attorneys.

Lichtman was part of the group of lawyers that defended the Mexican during his trial in New York, where he was extradited in January 2017 to face drug trafficking charges, judicial process that concluded with his sentence to life imprisonment after eleven weeks of extreme security measures and numerous protected witnesses.

“El Chapo, believe it or not, was a Trump fan”Lichtman assured during an interview he offered on Monday on the iHeartRadio program “In The Morning,” which was echoed by local media on Tuesday.

“Even when Trump hated El Chapo, he respected him“Said the lawyer about the former leader of the powerful Sinaloa Cartel.

Lichtman further stated that Guzmán understood Trump to be tough on “Muslim terrorists”.

Currently, “El Chapo” Guzmán is being held in a high security prison in Colorado, known as the Alcatraz of the Rockies or “Supermax”, from where no one has been able to escape. For the past year she has been working on her appeal alongside her attorneys. The place was designed to house prisoners considered “too dangerous for ordinary prisons.” Among others, Ted Kaczynski, known as Unabomber, and Zacarias Moussaoui, convicted for his role in organizing the attacks of September 11, 2001, are serving their sentences there.

Like the other prisoners considered highly dangerous, Guzmán he spends 23 hours a day in his cell. She is only allowed one hour of outdoor recreation, and even in this small recess she cannot take the restrictions off her, since she spends her time in the courtyard inside a kind of cell.

In the unit where “El Chapo” is housed there are 78 inmates, and each has a bed. He also receives his meals in the cell, so he does not interact with anyone other than his lawyers or the prison guards.

Before hearing his sentence, on July 17, 2019, the Mexican spoke in court to accuse the United States. from “corrupt”, while his defense considered that his trial had been a “show” and indicated that he plans to appeal the judge’s decision.

Guzmán, now 63, said his 30-month imprisonment was “a physical and mental torture, the most inhumane situation “that he has experienced in his entire life.

Guzmán, who is serving his sentence alone in the extreme security Administrative Maximum Facility (ADX) prison, appealed his sentence claiming that there were irregularities on his extradition from Mexico.

He has also claimed to the appeals court that the harsh conditions of confinement before the trial hampered the preparation of his defense.

He also claims to the panel of three judges that prosecutors were allowed to present excessive graphic evidence on the alleged 26 murders in which he was involved and for which he was not being tried, which, according to his defense, predisposed the members of the jury against him.

Last April, El Chapo celebrated his first birthday in prison. Isolated in his cell and preparing an appeal to the sentence of life imprisonment he received in 2019. This is how he celebrated his 63rd birthday, a diametrically reality opposite of fancy parties with which he used to celebrate his birthday back in the days when he was the most famous drug dealer in the world. Beyond a post on Instagram from his wife Emma Coronel, there are no signs that her birthday has registered for anyone else.
