Thunderstorms cause wireless interference.
Wireless internet technology is a major advancement that has allowed us to stay connected on the go. However, it is not perfect and is subject to interference from competing wireless signals, solid objects and even extreme weather. This interference occurs when signals weaken on their way to the device due to dust particles, trees and walls in the home. Electromagnetic waves have trouble penetrating these objects, so the signals get deflected and break apart, resulting in static or data loss. During bad weather, signals also become weakened as the water, cloud, rain and fog break apart and deflect the signals. As a result, the transmitter sends the data again, decreasing the device’s download speed.
