The success of SUVs has led to certain derivations, that although they retain the general attributes of this type of vehicle, they have a more sporty coupe aesthetic. They are the so-called crossover, and Audi is clearly betting on them, since it has already launched it for three models, the electric e-tron, the compact SUV Q3 and now for the mid-size SUV, the Q5.
As we say, the characteristics do not differ much from traditional SUVs except for the solution adopted at the rear, which has a steeper roof drop and therefore improves the drag coefficient. Always with four doors, this Q5 measures 4.69 meters in length (only 7 mm more than the Q5 “dry”), the front stands out for the large “Singleframe” grille, the air intakes, the LED lights as standard (which can be optional matrix) and the wide wheel arches. The rear can have OLED technology headlights that adopt different light forms.
Inside follows the general trend of other Audi in terms of general quality and details,but it does differ, logically, in the height of the passenger compartment at the rear and the trunk volume, which has 510 liters of capacity expandable to 570 sliding the second row of seats forward. The large tailgate, meanwhile, opens electrically.
A diesel to start
Regarding mechanics, In principle, the Q5 Sportback will be marketed with a 204-horsepower 2.0 TDI engine with Mild Hybrid technology, which will be associated with the 7-speed S tronic automatic transmissionsy with the brand’s Quattro all-wheel drive. Later, the range will be completed with another diesel version and two petrol TFSIs, which will be joined by two other TFSIe plug-in hybrids.
Since the Sportback is a sportier variant, suspension tuning has been optimized for better performance on tarmac, But Audi also proposes an adaptive air suspension that allows the height of the body to be increased by up to 45 mm if it is rolled on tracks or dirt roads.
In technological matter there are no differences with respect to the conventional Q5, and it will have elements such as the 12.3-inch digital dashboard (Audi virtual cockpit), head-up display, 10.1 ”touchscreen infotainment system or voice control, while driving aids are organized in packages with specific solutions for long journeys (Tour) or eminently urban (City).
