Real Madrid booked a difficult victory on Saturday evening in La Liga on a visit to Real Betis: 2-3. In the Serie A, Atalanta started the new season with a 2-4 win at Torino, partly due to hits by Hans Hateboer and Marten de Roon.
Real opened the score against Betis after fifteen minutes via a goal by Federico Valverde. The Uruguayan tapped in a cross from Karim Benzema from close by.
Even before half time, the home team turned the deficit into a lead. Aïssa Mandi restored the balance after more than half an hour with a header and William Carvalho surprised Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois with a shot into the short corner shortly afterwards.
In the second half Emerson grew into a schlemiel at Betis. Shortly after the break, the Brazilian worked a cross from the right into his own goal and in the 67th minute he was red after pushing the broken Luka Jovic to the ground.
Real also seemed to lose points in the second league game of the season, but in the final phase, Sergio Ramos still gave his team the win from a penalty kick. The ball hit the spot because of a foul by Marc Barta on substitute Borja Mayoral, after which Ramos Betis goalkeeper Joel Robles passed with a ‘Panenka’.
For Real it is the first league victory of the season. ‘De Koninklijke’ started the season last week with a disappointing draw at Real Sociedad (0-0).

In Italy, five of the six goals were scored in the first half at Torino-Atalanta. Andrea Belotti opened the score for the home team in the eleventh minute, but then the visitors turned the deficit into a lead. Alejandro Gómez first took care of the equalizing goal and moments later acted as principal for Luis Muriel’s 1-2.
Shortly before half-time, Hateboer lifted the margin to second by cleverly filling in a cross from Gómez at the far post. A minute later, Belotti scored 2-3 with his second goal.
In the second half, De Roon recovered the margin after ten minutes. After a well-timed sprint, the Orange-international ran into a cross from Muriel and sent the ball extremely accurately to the far corner. In the final phase, Lammers, who came over from PSV, made his official debut for Atalanta.
