With his album Folklore, the singer managed to stay for six weeks at the top of the Billboard ranking, and now aims to dethrone The Beatles.

Taylor Swift continues to break records. Folklore, the artist’s eighth studio album, does not stop giving it titles that place it among the greatest artists of music.

On July 24, his songs had already become the best debut for a singer on the Spotify platform, with 80.6 million listens in one day. In the first 24 hours, 1.3 million copies were sold, and the brands do not stop appearing. Now, tied a Whitney Houston record and is looking to surpass the Beatles.

The album immediately obtained an unprecedented success that positioned it as number one on the prestigious Billboard 200 list, and there it has been maintaining for six consecutive weeks, leading the ranking. He is not the only one who reached that place: with his eight albums he managed to add 46 weeks in the first position.

The highlight of this occasion is that until now, this record was held by Houston, the first female artist to reach this milestone, first with the album Whitney Houston, from 1985; then with Whitney, from 1987, in 1992 with the soundtrack of The bodyguard, and in 2009 with I Look to You.

Folklore became the first album in four years to spend six consecutive weeks at number one, after The View, from rapper drake, in 2016. Also, it is the only job that achieved this achievement in 2020.

Adele is the female artist who follows Swift’s footsteps most closely. He currently has 34 weeks at number one. But if the singer of My Tears Ricochet wants to take the first prize in all areas needs a little more time. The Beatles they passed 132 weeks in first place. Swift is 84 weeks away to tie that mark.

However, with these numbers, the 30-year-old singer is positioned ahead of other great musical premieres this year such as Chromatica, of Lady Gaga, which sold nearly 300,000 units in its first seven days, and from rapper Juice WRLD, whose album Legends Never Die it was in first position with 500,000 copies.

The video clip of Cardigan, first single from the album, swept YouTube, platform in which it exceeded 50 million views. Folklore it is the result of hard work in full quarantine. During three months of isolation, Swift wrote and recorded 16 songs plus a bonus track. The interpreter had the collaboration of Bon Iver, William Bowery and Jack Antonoff.

However, all these figures that take her to the peak of her career were clouded by a new accusation of plagiarism. Amira Rasool, founder of a clothing line designed by African artists called The Folklore, noted that the logo had a great similarity with that of his clothing brand.

To avoid any kind of conflict, Swift took the clothes off the sale he had on his website with that graphic and replaced it with the phrase Folklore Style.

This is not the first time that the singer has been accused of copying some other artist. In 2017 Sean Hall and Nathan Butler held her responsible for copying 20% of Playas Gon’ Play in the subject Shake It off, which became popular in 2014.

After almost three years of presenting evidence and accusations, NME confirmed that a Los Angeles judge announced that the conflict will continue in a trial. But in case Swift is guilty, she will not have to take responsibility for the compensation since the Machine Label Group record company, with which the singer no longer has a relationship, owns the rights.
