FC Groningen booked their first victory of the Eredivisie season on Sunday. Without Arjen Robben, the team of trainer Danny Buijs won 0-1 at ADO Den Haag.
Robben is still absent due to injury
The only goal of the afternoon was scored by ADO player Shaquille Pinas. The 22-year-old defender worked the ball in the 23rd minute after a cross from the left by Bart van Hintum very clumsily into his own goal.
Groningen was also fully entitled to the three points, as the visitors were the better team and had the best chances. For example, ADO goalkeeper Luuk Koopmans made a good save on a header from Ramon Lundqvist and Ajdin Hrustic and Tomás Suslov missed open opportunities. The home team never shot at goal.
Michiel Kramer escaped a red card in the second half. Danny Makkelie was called to the side after a serious foul by the ADO captain on Ko Itakura, but the referee stuck to yellow.
Because of the victory, Groningen climbs to the left row with three points after two games. ADO is seventeenth and is still waiting for the first point.
Robben was still missing from Groningen on Sunday. The 36-year-old left leg dropped out a week ago in the game with PSV due to a groin injury. The injury turned out to be not too bad, but Robben will not be available for several weeks.
Later in the day, three more matches will be played in the Eredivisie: Feyenoord-FC Twente (2.30 p.m.), Willem II-Heracles (2.30 p.m.) and Ajax-RKC Waalwijk (4.45 p.m.).
