Matthijs de Ligt has to wait a few weeks longer for his return from a shoulder injury. The 21-year-old defender recently returned to the training ground of his club Juventus, but according to trainer Andrea Pirlo his recovery needs more time.
Lazio’s entire selection must be quarantined
“Unfortunately Matthijs has to wait a few weeks for his return”, Pirlo said on Saturday at his press conference prior to Sunday’s league game against Spezia. “He has visited a specialist for his shoulder and he asked if he could wait a little longer. He is doing very well, he is training with us, but he needs more time.”
De Ligt had an operation on his shoulder in mid-August. He had been struggling with joint complaints for several months and his shoulder dislocated several times, but thanks to a special brace he was still able to play. He made the whole season full at the club from Turin, with which he became Italian national champion.
Pirlo will most likely not appeal to Cristiano Ronaldo against Spezia on Sunday. The 35-year-old star attacker does return to the match selection after a corona infection, but the Juventus trainer does not intend to draw up the Portuguese immediately. “He has trained a lot at home, but that’s not the same as being on the field,” said Pirlo.

Earlier on Saturday, it became clear that Lazio’s entire roster is in quarantine after several players tested positive for the coronavirus. The Serie A club of Wesley Hoedt, among others, does not report which players are involved.
It is not yet clear whether Sunday’s league game, the away game against Torino, can continue. The club from Rome was also afflicted by COVID-19 earlier. No fewer than five players, including the Dutchman Djavon Anderson, did not participate in the Champions League match against Club Brugge (1-1) on Wednesday.
