National coach Frank de Boer has called Sven Botman up for the Dutch national team on Thursday. The twenty-year-old defender of Lille OSC replaces Nathan Aké and makes his debut in the selection of Orange.
Aké suffered a hamstring injury in the first minutes in the friendly international match against Spain (1-1) on Wednesday. He returns to his club Manchester City on Thursday.
De Boer had already announced that he would probably pass a central defender from the Dutch Juniors. In addition to Botman, Perr Schuurs (Ajax) and Jordan Teze (PSV) were eligible.
Botman, who made a good impression last season as a mercenary at sc Heerenveen, switched from Ajax to Lille last summer for 8 million euros. The triple international of the Dutch Juniors only missed twelve minutes in the thirteen official matches of his French club so far.
It was already known that Ajax player Ryan Gravenberch (18) would report to Zeist on Thursday as a replacement for Tonny Vilhena. The 25-year-old midfielder of FK Krasnodar left the training camp of Orange on Tuesday after he had tested positive for the corona virus.
The Dutch national team is preparing with 24 players for the Nations League matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sunday) and Poland (next Wednesday).
