Three races before the end of the season, the fight for third place in the Constructors’ Cup has entered a decisive stage. Team Renault in the role of catching up, and on the eve of the Bahrain Grand Prix, Daniel Riccardo talked about how important it is with two cars to earn points next Sunday.
Q: What do you like about racing in Bahrain?
Daniel Riccardo: I am looking forward to returning to hot Bahrain! Recently, we have visited many great tracks in Europe, which for various reasons turned out to be funny stages, but for me the weather was cold! I prefer the heat, and even in the evening it is quite warm in Bahrain, which is great.
Two of the three workouts will take place during the day, when it is very hot, but the qualification and race are scheduled for the evening when the track is much cooler. As a result of such a weekend schedule, it is more difficult to prepare for the race – it is important to adapt to different settings.
Question: What can you say about the track?
Daniel Riccardo: Sakhir is a good track. I’ve always enjoyed racing here and the evening sessions are always interesting. In recent years, I have shown not the best results in Bahrain, but I will try to fix it in the coming weekend. There are several points for overtaking on the track, especially the first corner is the best place to attack.
Question: How much are you motivated, especially after the not very successful last stage?
Daniel RiccardoA: In Turkey, we had a hard time due to low grip and rainy weather, which led to a very unpredictable race. In Bahrain, everything should return to its usual course, since the properties of asphalt are well known to us.
We need to earn points with two cars. I feel that the car is much better compared to our last visit to Bahrain, so we need to be in good shape. We have unfinished business after last year, so I am determined.
