Daniel Ricciardo is pleased with the podium in the last race – and hopes to build on the success in Portimao …

Q: What do you know about the Portimao circuit?
Daniel Riccardo: I have good memories of racing on this track – in 2009 I played here in British Formula 3 and won the title! It was the penultimate stage – I climbed to the podium in the first race, finished fifth in the second, and that was enough for the title.

Earlier in the same year, I first tested a Formula Renault 3.5 car in Portimao. Then I really liked the track. I am sure she will make an even better impression while driving a modern Formula 1 car.

There are elevation changes, there are both high-speed and smooth turns. The configuration is very interesting. And the weather should be warmer than on the Nurburgring, so that my usual smile will return to my face. I hope that on Friday we will calmly work out the program – and we will be able to compete for a large number of points in the race.

Question: Are the emotions from the podium at the Nurburgring already gone?
Daniel Riccardo: The emotions last Sunday were fantastic – every time it feels like I’m on the podium for the first time. This year I finished fourth a couple of times, was close to third place – and finally it happened.

Our work and focus on results have borne fruit – I am very happy for the team that has been working towards this for several years. But the season is not over yet. I think we will have a chance before the end of the year. We continue to work. We have a goal. Plus, consider getting a tattoo for Cyril!
