The president of the United States, Donald Trump, affirmed that contracting COVID-19 has been “a blessing from God”, since it has allowed him to verify the effectiveness of Regeneron’s experimental cocktail, which he assured that he will approve emergency and distribute free.
“I think this was a God’s blessing, having contracted it. This has been a blessing in disguise, “Trump said in a video posted on Twitter.
The president said that having contracted COVID-19 It allowed him to try Regeneron’s experimental cocktail, which has not yet been approved by the regulatory body, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), but which Trump called a “cure.”
“I heard about that medicine, I said ‘let me take it’, it was my suggestion and the way it worked was incredible. And I think that if I had not been infected, I would consider it as one of the medicines“, assured the president.
“Is a cure for me, I went (to the hospital) without feeling very well and 24 hours later I felt great and I wanted to leave the hospital and that is what I want for everyone, I want everyone to receive the same treatment as your president, “he added.
Trump then promised that the Government will approve emergency, acquire and will distribute for free both the Regeneron cocktail, and a similar drug from the drug company Eli Lilly.
The president said that he has already approved the acquisition of tens of thousands of doses of these drugs and that he is working to authorize their emergency use, that is, without FDA approval.
“I want what I had for you and I am going to make it free, you are not going to pay for it, it was not your fault that this happened, it was China’s fault“, the president promised. Trump also assured that these drugs” are much more important than the vaccine, “which he said will also be ready after the November 3 elections.
Trump announced that he had contracted COVID-19 early Friday morning and that same day he received an eight-gram dose of the experimental cocktail of antibodies from Regeneron, known as REGN-COV2, which is part of an advanced phase clinical trial that has been taking place since July in the US, Brazil, Mexico and Chile.
Regeneron CEO Leonard Schleifer is golf club member that Trump has in Westchester, New York, according to CNN, and his shares have risen since it became known that the president was using it.
