It will be from 22 to 5 in the morning from Saturday. It will remain in effect until December 21.
The rising cases of coronavirus in the United States do not stop, so California imposed a curfew on much of its territory to stop the rapid increase in cases.
This was announced by the governor of that state, Gavin Newsom, who determined that the obligation to stay at home will govern from 10 pm to 5 am local time.
It will go into effect on Saturday night and will remain in effect until December 21.
“The virus it is spreading at a rate we have not seen since the start of this pandemic, and the next few days and weeks will be critical to stopping the increase. We are raising the alarm, “Newson said in a statement.
“It is crucial that we act to decrease transmission and delay hospitalizations before death toll rises. We have done it before and we must do it again, “he continued.
The order will be issued in counties that are at the purple level, the most restrictive, which applies to 94% of the state’s population, including Los Angeles and San Diego.
San Francisco, which moved from the least restrictive yellow level to red this week, will not be affected by this curfew.
Yet the city, like much of the Bay Area, has been forced to ban indoor dining rooms and restrict retail stores and gyms amid a new wave of the virus.
According to authorities, cases have increased by 50% in California during the first week of November, raising fears that hospitals in the worst affected areas will collapse with new patients.
“Lowering our guard could endanger thousands of lives and cripple our healthcare system“, said Erica Pan, Acting State Public Health Officer.
“Together we prevent a public health crisis in the spring and together we can do it again,” he added.
Mark Ghaly, secretary of the state Department of Health and Human Services, warned that more severe restrictions could be imposed unless the number of cases falls.
“We may need to take stricter measures if we can’t flatten the curve quickly, “he said.” Taking these harsh and temporary measures now could help prevent future closures, “he said.
Newsom’s announcement of the curfew came when more and more states of the country began to back down in reopening.
The United States registers more than 251,000 deaths and more than 11.6 million reported cases, according to a count by the Universidad Johns Hopkins.
