A corona-ravaged AZ also gave away a certain-looking victory in the Eredivisie at ADO Den Haag on Sunday. In the absence of fifteen infected players, the Alkmaarders lost a lead twice: 2-2.
Duel continued despite new cases at AZ
It is the fourth time in a row that AZ has relinquished its lead in the Eredivisie. Earlier, Fortuna Sittard (3-3), Sparta Rotterdam (4-4) and VVV-Venlo (2-2) came back from beaten position against the team of trainer Arne Slot.
Albert Gudmundsson broke the spell for AZ in the 33rd minute with a shot from close range into the intersection. It was for the Icelander, who got a starting place for the first time since the end of September due to a suspension from Jonas Svensson, his first goal of the season.
ADO Den Haag did not give up and came halfway through the second half at the same level by a nice goal from Milan van Ewijk. The right back took a corner from John Goossens directly on the slipper and left AZ goalkeeper Marco Bizot no chance.
Less than two minutes later, AZ took the lead again. ADO defender Peet Bijen just pushed the ball into the feet of Jesper Karlsson, who eagerly used that opportunity with a shot in the short corner.
Three minutes before time, Michiel Kramer gave ADO a point. A cross from Van Ewijk shot through into the AZ penalty area and substitute Kramer was there like the chickens at the far post to outwit Bizot.

Just before kick-off in The Hague, it became clear that another two players from AZ had tested positive for the corona virus. This brought the counter to fifteen infected players. Despite the corona breakout in the selection, the past matches, Thursday in the Europa League against Napoli (0-1 win) and Sunday against ADO Den Haag, continued as usual.
Although trainer Slot is not allowed to say who is infected with COVID-19 due to privacy legislation, Orange internationals Myron Boadu and Jordy Clasie, among others, were missing from the match selection on Sunday against ADO.
Thanks to the fifth draw in a row, AZ, which finished second in the aborted last season, rises to tenth place in the Eredivisie. The Alkmaarders are already ten points behind leader Ajax, although they still have a match credit. ADO Den Haag remains fifteenth with four points from six matches.
