Third Baptist Church offers drive-through food pantry for community, Foodbank needs donations to help people thrive.
Third Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Virginia, offers a drive-through food pantry every fourth Monday to help meet the needs of the local community. Pastor Joseph Fleming started the program when the pandemic began and volunteers from the church help make it happen. The food is provided by the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore and includes potatoes, carrots, apples and rice. Two retired women who visited the pantry expressed their appreciation for the help.
However, the pandemic boost to EBT cards, which provided additional temporary benefits, will end next Monday. The Foodbank is currently challenged by the supply chain and is lacking protein to offer. They are calling on residents to invest in the people of Hampton Roads and are encouraging donations on their website.
The food pantry is providing much needed help to those in the community. It is not only providing food to those in need, but is also representing hope and showing the power of what a community can do when they come together. The Foodbank is doing their best to meet the needs of the community, but they need help from donations to be able to continue to provide fresh produce and protein.
