The ceremony was to take place on February 27. The Spanish Film Academy did not explain the reasons for the postponement. She did say that it will be a “more austere” gala. Antonio Banderas will be one of the presenters.
The 35th edition of the Goya Awards, the most important awards in Spanish cinema, It will be held on March 6 at the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank in Malaga. This Saturday, the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain announced that the ceremony will take place, then, a week after what was planned.
The vice president of the Academy, Rafael Portela, communicated -after the annual assembly of the entity- that the act ran for a few days, always in the first quarter of 2021, but did not explain the reasons for the calendar change. In this way, the initial date of February 27 was canceled.
The names of the hosts will be the same as those announced for the February gala: the presenters will be the actor Antonio Banderas and Maria Married, president of the Television Academy.
Banderas, who just turned 60 and was infected with coronavirus, is a spoiled child of the Goya, with whom he has a fruitful relationship.
In 2014 he received the Goya of Honor and last year he was awarded the statuette to Best Leading Actor, for his enormous work in Pain and glory, multi-award winning film by Pedro Almodóvar, in which the actor composes a series of alter ego of the director. At this year’s party the film won seven Goya.
In addition, it transpired that Banderas and Casado will be responsible for much of the script of the gala, which they will write together with a team of authors.
During the gala, from the theater that Banderas has in Malaga, his hometown, connections and interventions will be made with other scenarios in Spain: the Palau de les Arts in Valencia and the Bankia Príncipe Pío Theater in Madrid, in a delivery sustained by histrionics and technology.
Beyond the fact that it is impossible to imagine how everything will be in the post-pandemic era -Spain is one of the countries most affected by the coronavirus-, “the ceremony will be held with all security measures and will be more austere, completely different from last year, but of which we can all be proud “, acknowledged the authorities of the Academy in the statement.
In this way, the city of Malaga will host this Spanish cinema gala for the second consecutive year. The first was on January 25, 2020, when the 34th edition was finalized. The Covid-19 was already circling Europe, but the party could be carried out with its usual glamor.
Last month, Banderas said through a statement that he had been infected: “I want to make public that today, August 10, I am forced to celebrate my 60th birthday following quarantine after having tested positive of COVID-19 disease “.
Three weeks later he wrote: “After 21 days of disciplined confinement, I can say that I have overcome the Covid-19 infection. I am cured. My thoughts go to those who didn’t make it and to those who have had it worse than me. Courage for all those who are in the middle of the fight, “wrote the actor on his social networks.
These days he will begin to outline, together with Casado, the texts that will host him in his beloved Malaga.
