SC Cambuur won the first period title in the Kitchen Champion Division on Wednesday without playing. The Frisian club ends on goal difference above De Graafschap, which was 1-0 too strong for NAC Breda.
De Graafschap already knew that it needed a miracle to steal the period title from Cambuur’s nose. The make-up match against NAC Breda then had to be won with at least eighteen goals difference.
Of course, the team of trainer Mike Snoei did not succeed, but did manage to keep three points from the difficult home game. Mohamed Hamdaoui scored the only goal just before half time, after Johnatan Opoku had put the ball back cleverly.
De Graafschap climbs to second place in the Kitchen Champion Division. The gap on leader Almere City FC is two points. NAC Breda drops to fifth place, just behind SC Cambuur and FC Volendam.
The match between De Graafschap and NAC was initially scheduled for October 9, but was canceled due to a number of corona infections at the Breda team, which meant that the entire selection had to be quarantined.
By winning the first period, SC Cambuur is certain of participating in the play-offs at the end of the season. If the team finishes first or second, immediate promotion to the Eredivisie follows. Then the ticket moves to another club based on the final score.
