MJØNDALEN (VG) (Mjøndalen – Viking 1–2) He creates, scores and serves – but he hardly signs, Zymer Bytyqi (24).
The Vikings ‘number one form player has been requested by the Norwegian champion, but as far as VG knows, has so far rejected the Vikings’ contract proposal earlier this month.
His current contract only expires in the 2020 season, and now it is asked whether the time is running out for the Stavanger club with a view to extending.
– We are in dialogue. But we do not agree, says coach Bjarne Berntsen after
over Mjøndalen, where Bytyqi scored the 1-1 goal.
The wing also played forward Even Østensen to goal chance and had the direction in the click-click attack where Tommy Høiland shot in the post and could put the Vikings third. Bytyqi itself has little to report on the contract situation.
– I am a Viking player and I will continue to do so. The only thing I focus on is on the football field, scoring goals and providing assists, says the 24-year-old.
He does it well. He is already up 13 goals (eight goals and five assists), and nine of them have come under the Vikings’ undefeated series that counts seven games after Mjøndalen was beaten on Sunday night.
It has happened almost at the same time as Bytyqi was moved from right to left edge, and it is in last year’s captain Zlatko Tripic’s old role that Bytyqi has really flourished. Tripic shot Viking for cup gold and was sold to Turkish Göztepe.
But his nine goal points over the entire league season last year, heir Bytyqi has already surpassed.
– Of course we hope that he signs, but time will tell. He’s had a wonderful time now. I am most pleased today that even though he is lying down a couple of times with a bang in the ankle, he gets up and continues to play. It shows that he has taken steps, Bjarne Berntsen points out.
– Why were you not earlier in getting him to extend?
