Sunday’s KZ Final race of the FIA World Karting Championship in Lonato, Italy attracted the attention of the entire racing world, but not with sports results, but with the behavior of one of the participants – Luca Corberi.
During the race, the 23-year-old Italian bumped into Paolo Ippolito twice. Instead of analyzing the controversial episodes after the finish line with the stewards, Corbury chose to administer justice on his own. Thinking nothing better, Luca lifted a torn plastic bumper off the side of the race track and threw it at Ippolito as he passed by.
After the finish line, Corbury found Ippolito in the paddock and pounced on him with his fists. Several other people joined the fight. Eyewitnesses claim that Father Corbury, who owns the track, was also involved in the fight.
Corbury and Ippolito were disqualified, but the incident outraged the racing world. So the 2009 world champion Jenson Button on Twitter called for life-long disqualification of the instigator Corbury and his father: “With his disgusting behavior, Luca Corbury destroyed any chance of continuing his racing career.
His father, the owner of the track, pushed the other guy hard against the wall. Please disqualify these two idiots for life. “
