The Cleveland Browns have taken advantage of the fifth selection year of quarterback Baker Mayfield’s rookie contract.
Last year, Mayfield helped the Browns win their first playoff game in 26 years. In the regular season, he also had 3,563 yards and 26 touchdowns in 16 games.
In addition, the Ohio team chose to do the same with defensive guard Denzel Ward, who will receive a salary of $13.2 million in 2022.
Due to the latter’s development in the third level, the defense against the Browns is more consistent. In three seasons, Ward made 143 tackles and 7 interceptions. He also got a middle finger and recovered three dropped balls.
General Manager Andrew Berry said in a statement: “In the past three years, these two companies have done very well for us. We see these two guys as young players who continue to climb. .”
The Browns must take advantage of the fifth selection year of these two players by May 3. They will now be able to sign long-term contracts with them.
