The Golden Boy Award is a reward for Haaland for his stormy development in recent years. The Norwegian top talent broke through at Red Bull Salzburg and forced a transfer to Borussia Dortmund in January of this year.

In 29 official matches for Dortmund, Haaland scored 27 times and was good for six assists. The seven-time international, currently shared top scorer in the Champions League, has already scored eleven times in eleven games this season.
Haaland follows in the footsteps of Atlético Madrid forward João Félix, who won the prestigious award last year with the Golden Boy Award. After Mario Götze (2011), he is the second player from Borussia Dortmund to be named ‘Golden Boy’
In 2018, that honor fell to Matthijs de Ligt. The then Ajax player and Rafael van der Vaart are the only two Dutchmen who ever managed to win the Golden Boy Award. Van der Vaart was immediately the first winner in 2003.
