According to the German newspaper Bild, preparations are underway in the country to start coronation vaccinations before the end of the year, according to the news agency Reuters.
The German Ministry of Health plans to set up 60 vaccination centers where vaccines can be stored at the right temperature. According to Bild, a deadline of 10 November has been set for 16 states to agree on the locations of the centers.
Earlier this week, the German Minister of Health Jens Spahn, which received a positive corona test result on Wednesday, said in a video conference that the German company BioNTech ‘s corona vaccine is close to official approval. The vaccine is being developed in collaboration with Pfizer in the United States.
At the same conference, Spahn was asked how soon he expects the first vaccinations to see the light of day.
– It can happen before the end of the year, was the answer.
Last month, Germany backed BioNTech and another vaccine development company, Curevac, with $ 745 million. The purpose of the aid is to encourage companies to speed up development work and expand production capacity.
The vaccine of BioNTech and Pfizer is currently being tested in Japan. Preliminary results from tests in the United States are expected as early as the end of this month.
As in many other European countries, new coronary infections in Germany are at record levels. The latest number of new infections in a single day from Germany is 11,287 infections. This is the highest reading since the beginning of the pandemic and a high spike from the previous day. Last Friday, 7,830 infections were recorded, the second highest number to date.
