The plan of ESAKE and its president, Vangelis Galatsopoulos for the central management of the Basket League is taking shape!

Any objections that existed in the previous days on the part of Aris were bent and the 12 teams are moving forward together, to complete the big deal with ERT, which will offer great prospects in professional basketball.

After almost twenty years, the teams put the good of the championship above all and reached an agreement for central management, which marks the beginning of a new era in Greek basketball.

Now, the president of ESAKE, Vangelis Galatsopoulos, will negotiate with the public television the last details, before the signatures “fall”.

According to ESAKE, this is an important development, which “will offer stability and security to the OEMs, to the players, to the coaches, to their owners to plan the future”.

The relevant announcement of ESAKE in detail:

In today’s (5/10) meeting of the Board of Directors of ESAKE the 12 OEMs of the Basket League (AEK, Aris, Iraklis, Ionikos Hellenic Coin, Kolossos H Hotels, Larissa, Lavrio Megabolt, Panathinaikos OPAP, PAOK, Peristeri, Prometheus and Charilaos ) in principle accepted ERT’s proposal for the television rights of their matches in the Championship and authorized the president, Mr. Evangelos Galatsopoulos to enter into negotiations with the public television on the terms of the final agreement.

After almost 20 years, all the teams collaborated in an atmosphere of unity, put above all the good of the Championship and achieved the central management of the television rights of the Championship.

The upcoming agreement with ERT will mark the beginning of a new era for Greek professional basketball for two main reasons. The first is that the central management of television rights creates the conditions for the further development of the healthy competition of the OEMs and the upgrading of the Championship as a whole.

The second is that the new agreement with ERT will be long-lived and in a period of economic crisis due to the pandemic will offer stability and security to the OEMs, the players, the coaches, their owners to plan the future.
