FC Barcelona reached an agreement with the players group on Friday about a reduction in salaries. This is a cut of 172 million euros.
Barcelona has the worst competition start in years
Of that amount, 122 million will be cut on the fixed salaries and another 50 million on bonuses for the players, as the club of trainer Ronald Koeman late in a statement know. “This agreement is a milestone to transform the current financial situation of the club,” said ‘Barça’.
More than a week ago it was announced that Spanish clubs had to reduce their salary budget on behalf of La Liga due to declining income due to the corona crisis. Barcelona was the hardest hit of all clubs.
In May, the Barcelona players also temporarily surrendered 70 percent of their salary. In doing so, they prevented club staff from losing their jobs during the corona crisis.
Due to the cutbacks, it seems impossible for Barcelona to stir in the transfer market in January. Koeman wanted to strengthen his injury-ridden squad with Memphis Depay, among others.
Barcelona is experiencing its worst competition start in years and occupies only thirteenth place in La Liga. In the Champions League, the team of star player Lionel Messi is already certain of a place in the eighth finals.
On Sunday, a home game with Osasuna (kick-off 2 p.m.) is scheduled for Barcelona.
