AZ has booked the second victory in a row in the Eredivisie on Sunday. Coach Arne Slot’s team was 0-3 too strong for sc Heerenveen in Friesland and won a league match outside Alkmaar for the first time this season.
Koopmeiners opens score from penalty kick
Teun Koopmeiners opened the score from a penalty kick after half an hour. Just before half time, AZ doubled the margin thanks to an own goal from Lucas Woudenberg.
Shortly after the interruption, Jesper Karlsson took care of the third goal. Where AZ gave up the lead in four previous league matches, the team held on this time. In the final phase, Mitchell van Bergen still hit the post on behalf of Heerenveen.
Thanks to the victory, AZ climbs to eighth place with eleven points from seven matches. The Alkmaarders have played one less game than almost all other teams.
Heerenveen occupies sixth place with sixteen points from eight matches. The Frisians suffered their first home loss and lost in the league for the second time this season.

In the Abe Lenstra Stadium, AZ went on the hunt for the opening goal from the first whistle. Dani de Wit and Fredrik Midtsjø were close early in the game, but they both just missed. A header from Albert Gudmundsson was a little later turned away by Erwin Mulder.
In the 27th minute, the visitors had the perfect opportunity to take the lead. The ball hit the spot after a handball by Jan Paul van Hecke, after which Koopmeiners fired the penalty into the right corner flawlessly.
Four minutes before half time, AZ was again accurate. This time, Woudenberg slid an Owen Wijndal cross into his own goal in a duel with Gudmundsson.
Also in the second half, the North Hollanders immediately looked for a goal and that resulted in the 0-3 within two minutes. Karlsson pulled in from the left and surprised Mulder with a shot into the short corner. A few minutes later, the Heerenveen goalkeeper kept the Swede from scoring.
AZ then seemed to be at peace with the standings and Heerenveen was unable to create danger. Only Van Bergen was close to a goal of honor for the home team with a shot on the post that changed direction.
