AZ records third victory in a row against Emmen and hooks up with subtop Eredivisie

AZ has booked its third victory in a row in the Eredivisie on Sunday. The Alkmaarders were 1-0 too strong for FC Emmen in-house.

The only goal of the evening was scored by Bruno Martins Indi. The defender worked the ball in from close range in the eleventh minute after Emmen goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald had managed to turn a bet by Pantelis Hatzidiakos.

Lucas Bernadou, who made his basic debut for Emmen, had to leave halfway through the second half with red. The twenty-year-old midfielder had his foot on Jonas Svensson’s Achilles tendon. Referee Marc Nagtegaal sent him away to see the images.

The game thus seemed decided, but the visitors were twice very close to the equalizer. First, a bouncer from Miguel Araujo was taken off the line just in time – the arbitration ruled – by Teun Koopmeiners and less than a minute later a goal by Michael de Leeuw was canceled due to offside.

AZ held on to the lead in a somewhat cramped final phase, causing Arne Slot’s team to climb to seventh place in the ranking. The number two of last season has fourteen points from eight duels and thus joins the subtop in the Eredivisie.

Next Sunday, AZ will visit Heracles Almelo. FC Emmen (seventeenth with three points) receives leader Ajax a day earlier.
