AZ coach Slot, despite a victory over Emmen, is very dissatisfied with the second half

AZ coach Arne Slot is not pleased with the second half of his team in the home game against FC Emmen. Although the Alkmaarders won 1-0 on Sunday, they failed to decide the game after the break.

‘I don’t want to say it was bad’

“I thought the second half was very poor in particular,” said Slot FOX Sports. “That was because there was not enough running. I am really very dissatisfied with the second half. The first half was still quite good, even though we could have gotten more out of a number of moments than we did.”

AZ took the lead after eleven minutes via a goal from Bruno Martins Indi. After an hour of play, FC Emmen also ended up with ten men due to a red card for Lucas Bernadou, who had stood on Jonas Svensson’s Achilles tendon.

The game thus appeared to be decided, but the visitors were then close to the tying run twice. First, a seesaw by Miguel Araujo was taken off the line just in time by Teun Koopmeiners and less than a minute later a goal by Michael de Leeuw was rejected due to offside.

AZ did not give away the victory in the end, but Slot was also disappointed by missing a number of opportunities. Jesper Karlsson, among others, failed to score. “It is very much in our way this season that we do not finish the odds, so we can easily win some games.”

The trainer also found that his players on the ball were not active enough. “We played a bad game today, but I don’t want to say that it was bad”, Slot concluded.

Thanks to the victory over Emmen, AZ climbs to seventh place in the ranking. The number two of last season has fourteen points from eight duels and thus joins the subtop in the Eredivisie.
