ISO 50001:2018 aids data centers to reduce costs, carbon footprint and engage stakeholders. ISO 50001:2018 is an international standard that provides a framework for organizations to develop an energy management system (EnMS) to improve energy use. It encourages sustainability, energy efficiency and green energy practices at the organizational level and helps data centers reduce their energy costs, carbon footprint, and increase organizational engagement. The standard follows the “plan-do-check-act” process for continual improvement and is supported by third-party organizations, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the 50001 Ready Navigator tool. By following the ISO 50001:2018 standard, data centers can make informed…

Add fields to documents for dynamic data updates. Document fields are a great way to save time and effort when creating documents. Fields are dynamic pieces of information that are automatically updated when the document is reused. For example, a date field can be added to a document so that the current date is always displayed. The LibreOffice office suite is a great tool for adding fields to documents. To add a field, open LibreOffice and either create a new document or open an existing one. To add a date field, click the space to the right of the date…

Creating $2.6B National AI Research Capability. The Biden White House has announced the release of a final report outlining a three-year plan to build a National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR). The NAIRR is envisioned to be shared AI research infrastructure for public use, costing $2.6 billion over six years. The plan calls for a four-phased approach over three years to create a “democratized” AI infrastructure for students and researchers to tap. It’ll provide access to both governmental and nongovernmental data resources. The current state of AI research is limited to “well-resourced” entities, and countries like China are seeing technological…

Bayer and Google partner to use TPUs for quantum chemistry calculations to accelerate drug discovery. The partnership between Bayer and Google Cloud is set to leverage the power of Google’s Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) to accelerate and scale Bayer’s quantum chemistry calculations. This will involve quantum mechanics being applied to computer-aided drug discovery, enabling the in-silico modelling of biological and chemical systems. The two companies aim to demonstrate that fully quantum mechanical modelling of protein-ligand interactions is possible, as well as determine the scientific and economic viability of large-scale density functional theory calculations for practical applications. The collaboration is part…
