Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang extended his contract with Arsenal for two years on Tuesday. The 31-year-old striker is now stuck at ‘The Gunners’ until mid-2023.
With his contract extension, Aubameyang puts an end to rumors of a departure from Arsenal. The Gabonese would not initially plan to extend his stay, but still link his future to the Londoners.
Aubameyang has been wearing the Arsenal shirt since January 2018, which at the time took him over from Borussia Dortmund for more than € 60 million. He has played 111 official games on behalf of the Premier League club in the past 2.5 years, scoring 72 goals.
Still, Aubameyang’s early days at Arsenal were not great from a sporting point of view. Manager Unai Emery was fired in November 2019 after a series of disappointing results, but under his successor Mikel Arteta, Arsenal seems to have started the way up.
The thirteen-time national champion won the FA Cup in August by beating Chelsea 2-1 in the final. Arteta was already hoping that the overall victory in the cup tournament could convince Aubameyang to stay and now he knows for sure that he will have access to his star player for the time being.
Arsenal, which also won the Community Shield in August, started the new season in the Premier League well on Saturday by winning the away game against fellow townsman Fulham with 0-3. Aubameyang signed for the third hit on Craven Cottage.
