Atlético de Madrid suspended its pre-season concentration in Los Angeles de San Rafael (Segovia) and returned to Madrid for a positive for covid-19 of a person who is part of the ‘bubble’ of the first team and is in contact with him, although he is not neither a footballer nor does he belong to the coaching staff, as confirmed to EFE club sources.

The PCR tests this Thursday, whose results were known this Friday, yielded this only positive, whose contagion, according to the club’s tracking, it corresponds to the family environment and it occurred before the start of the concentration in the Segovian highlands, although at that time the PCR did not detect it, according to the same sources.

This positive forces to repeat PCR tests to all the people of the first team and in contact with him. Until the result of these new tests, to which both soccer players, technicians and team workers have already undergone this Friday, Atlético will not resume training for its set-up in the Majadahonda Sports City, where he will continue his preseason.

The players -in Los Angeles de San Rafael were concentrated all the first team and several homegrown players except Diego Costa and Santiago Arias (both positive for covid-19 during the holidays and in quarantine, so they had not yet joined the trainings) – they are already at home waiting for the results of the new PCR tests to resume work.

Atlético de Madrid has its first game of the preseason scheduled for September 15, in the Ramón de Carranza Trophy against Cádiz, although his start of LaLiga Santander is not scheduled until next September 26 or 27 against Granada in the Wanda Metropolitano, due to their participation until August 13 in the final phase of the Champions League.

The rojiblanco team began the preseason on September 3 with the relevant PCR tests to which the entire squad, the coaching staff and employees in contact with the first team in training were subjected, as established by the League protocol, which also indicates the systematic performance of controls.

Once the club then knew the negatives of all (neither Diego Costa nor Arias were subjected to these tests because they were already isolated), Atlético began their training sessions on Friday 4th, with his first session of the preseason in Majadahonda.

Last Monday, the team exercised again there in the morning and then moved to the Segovian mountains, to Los Angeles de San Rafael, where they trained that same afternoon, for their usual preseason concentration.

There, the Madrid team was going to stay until this Saturday morning, according to the original plan, but, with the positive for Covid-19 of a member of the auxiliary staff, the decision was made to return to Madrid to make the whole team the new PCR, whose result will mark the moment of the return to training.
