Atalanta suffered its second defeat in Serie A. The team of Marten de Roon, Hans Hateboer and Sam Lammers lost 1-3 at home against Sampdoria and had a bad dress rehearsal for the Champions League game with Ajax, that will be finished on Tuesday in Bergamo.

Lammers was in the starting line-up for the first time since his transfer from PSV, while De Roon was also at the kick-off as usual. Hateboer, normally also a basic player, started on the bench and saw that Sampdoria was extremely effective in the first half.
Fabio Quagliarella opened the score after fifteen minutes. The 37-year-old striker played José Luis Palomino easily and hit hard and high in the short corner. Quagliarella was given the perfect opportunity to extend the score right before half time, but saw a penalty kick stopped by Atalanta keeper Marco Sportiello.
After an hour of play, when Lammers had already been substituted, Morten Thorsby still doubled the lead for Sampdoria. The former player of sc Heerenveen headed in a cross from Jakub Jankto.
Immediately after Thorsby’s goal, Hateboer came in for Atalanta, who came to 1-2 with a final offensive by a utilized penalty kick from Duván Zapata. In injury time, however, star Jankto put an end to all certainty.

Atalanta sees Sampdoria equal in points due to the defeat and is in fourth place in the Serie A. On Tuesday the team from Bergamo will kick off against Ajax at 9 pm.
Internazionale took advantage of Atalanta’s defeat. The club from Milan won 0-2 at Genoa and rose to third place. Romelu Lukaku and Danilo D’Ambrosio scored after the break for the team of Stefan de Vrij, who sat on the bench for ninety minutes.
Later that day Lazio will play in Serie A. The club from Rome will play at home against Bologna at 8.45 pm. Leader AC Milan, which surprisingly has not yet lost any points, awaits the top match against AS Roma in San Siro on Monday.
