Atalanta started the new season in Serie A with a goal-rich victory on Saturday. Partly due to hits by Hans Hateboer and Marten de Roon, the number three of last season won 2-4 visiting Torino.
Lammers makes his debut with Atalanta in the final phase
Atalanta, like Internazionale, started the Italian league a week later, because it was still active in August in the last European season. The Bergamo team reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, losing 2-1 to Paris Saint-Germain.
With Hateboer and De Roon in the starting line-up and Sam Lammers in the final phase as a substitute, Atalanta continued on the same footing as last season. Back then, with 98 goals, it was the most scoring team in Serie A. In Turin, five of the six goals were scored in the first half.
Torino took the lead in-house through Andrea Belotti. The striker shot from a difficult angle after a through ball from Tomás Rincón. Ten minutes later, however, the visitors turned that into a lead. First, Alejandro Gómez himself took care of the equalizer. He then acted as principal for Luis Muriel’s 1-2.
Shortly before half time, Hateboer raised the margin to two by cleverly filling in a cross from Gomez at the far post. A minute later, Belotti scored 2-3 with his second goal.

In the second half, De Roon recovered the margin after ten minutes. After a well-timed sprint, the Orange-international ran into a cross from Muriel and sent the ball extremely accurately to the far corner.
For both Atalanta and Torino it was clear that the game was over. Five minutes before the end, Lammers, who had come from PSV, made his official debut on behalf of Atalanta, but he was unable to liven up his baptism of fire with a goal.
Due to the goal-rich victory, Atalanta is one of seven teams, including national champions Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan, that have started the new competition season with a victory. Lazio and Internazionale, among others, have yet to take action for the first time this weekend.
