At the launch conference for the iPhone 12 terminal line, Apple officials detailed a series of MagSafe accessories. Some of them have started to sell and are not what you expect.
When Apple announced the MagSafe iPhone chargers, they sounded pretty good, even though they were a significant handicap in terms of charging speed compared to similar solutions from Huawei, Samsung, Xiaomi and others. You bought a MagSafe charger, you also paid for an 18W socket charger and you had the opportunity to magnetically charge your iPhone 12 or 12 Pro phone at 15W.
Starting from this premise, you would have thought that any MagSafe certified charger, at least the ones from Apple, offers you 15W. It’s not like that at all. Even the very precious MagSafe Duo charger, pictured above, which costs $ 130 in the US, does not offer 15W. Instead, it boils down to 14W, according to official data published on the Apple website.
The difference from 14W to 15W seems like the imperceptible discrepancy in the real world, but it’s big enough for Apple to feel that they stole you a little more, they made another combination.
As a reference, MagSafe Duo is a charger that promises to charge your phone and watch at the same time. The downside is that up to $ 130, Apple sells it to you without a charger, just a USB-C cable, and that’s where the extra investment begins.
If you buy an 18W charger with USB C, which in Romania costs 200 lei, you will have a charging speed through MagSafe Duo of only 11W on your phone. To jump to 14W, less anyway than the value specified for the MagSafe single charger, you need a 30W USB-C charger, which Apple sells to you in Romania for 319 lei. From a simple calculation, it is clear that MagSafe Duo is a bad business, so bad that Apple seems not to want to buy it.
