This Wednesday 14 comes the streaming “Blackpink: Light Up the Sky”, which follows one of the most successful South Korean bands of the moment. Good mix of music and behind the scenes.
K-pop managed to transcend the borders of South Korea and reached all parts of the world. He conquered an audience that has no idea what the lyrics of their favorite artists say. Netflix brought this phenomenon to the small screen and this Wednesday the 14th it premieres Blackpink: Light Up the Sky, a documentary that follows the female group, the greatest exponent of this gender.
In the trailer, which was released on October 5 and lasts just under two minutes, Jisoo, Rosé, Jennie and Lisa, the four members of this group, share with their fans what it is like behind the scenes of a show and moments in the studio. The video begins with one of the singers practicing a part of a song about to be recorded. “As you feel comfortable,” says one of her companions.
The trailer mixes images of the girls at shows, walking the streets through crowds, and also shows them in more intimate moments. “K-pop is a worldwide cultural phenomenon,” says one voiceover, and another responds: “We became something we did not think possible”.
Artists review their years before success. What it was like to live in boarding school and spend most of your time studying music to get to where you are today. They remember the hard times and the times they were about to give up everything because they believed that becoming stars was impossible. Among so much success, they also count how difficult it is to be away from their families, but how well they get along with each other.
The film has exclusive interviews and footage from the set that range from the early days to the phenomenon they are today. “Who would have imagined that so many people would sing in Korean?”says one of the singers. The documentary ends with their historic performance at the 2019 Coachella festival. It was the first female K-pop group to get on that stage..
“We are looking forward to sharing our personal stories with fans around the world through Netflix. We hope this movie brings joy and light to viewers and that they will enjoy watching our journey together on screen for the past four years,” said the group in an official statement about the feature film directed by Caroline Suh, who was behind the documentary of Netflix Salt, fat, acid, heat.
The Korean group debuted in 2018 with Blackpink In Your Area and in 2019 published Kill This Love. “You could say that Blackpink became the most well-known and popular girl group in the world,” said Adam Del Deo vice president of documentary features at Netflix.
The last of his music videos, Lovesick Girls, premiered October 1 accumulates 123 million visits. Before that, they released Ice Cream, in collaboration with Selena Gomez and it’s part of the album Blackpink: The Album which went on sale on October 2.
