The city council of Alkmaar unanimously agreed with the proposal of the college of mayor and aldermen to make an amount of 10 million euros available for the construction of the new roof in the AZ stadium.
AZ, which had asked for the financial aid, receives the money in the form of a loan that the municipality guarantees. The club, through general manager Robert Eenhoorn, was very happy with the support of the municipality.
The college of B and W of Alkmaar says that it attaches great importance to the social importance of AZ in the municipality and the region. The college also recognizes the special situation in which the club has ended up.
The roof of the AZ stadium partially collapsed in August last year during a heavy storm. At the end of last month, Eenhoorn estimated the cost of the new building at over 20 million euros.
“Construction on the new roof has started,” said Eenhoorn. “And as a club we take a big step forward.”
