Ajax starts on Wednesday with Davy Klaassen, Noussair Mazraoui and Zakaria Labyad in the Champions League match at home against Midtjylland. The three, who were injured in the Eredivisie game against Heracles Almelo on Sunday, have been recovered in time.
Ajax has bad figures in ArenA
Labyad and Mazraoui already participated on Tuesday in the last training of Ajax before the match against the Danish champion. Klaassen skipped the practice session, but trainer Erik ten Hag said then that he was hopeful that the midfielder could play.
Antony, who was missing from the match selection against Heracles, has also recovered from an injury, but he is still starting on the bench. The vanguard of Ajax against Midtjylland is formed by David Neres, Lassina Traoré and Dusan Tadic.
Klaassen starts in midfield with Labyad and Ryan Gravenberch and the rearguard consists, as expected, of Mazraoui, Perr Schuurs, Daley Blind and Nicolás Tagliafico.
Ajax-FC Midtjylland starts on Wednesday at 9 p.m. At the same time, the kick-off is at Liverpool-Atalanta, the other match in group D. Three weeks ago Ajax already won 1-2 at Midtjylland. If the team from Amsterdam now win again, they are sure of at least third place in the group and thus winter in the Europa League.
However, a victory in their own Johan Cruijff ArenA is no certainty for the team from Amsterdam: in more than two years, only one Champions League match was won at home.
Since the 1-0 victory over Benfica on October 23, 2018 (goal Mazraoui), only Lille OSC has been won.
