At one time we talked about how the biographical book “Unknown Kimi Raikkonen” by Kari Hotakainen became a national bestseller in Finland, setting an absolute record for the number of copies sold in 2019.
The book has been translated into many languages, including Russian, but it seemed to some critics that not many pages were devoted to Formula 1 itself, since it was mostly about the life of one of the most popular racers on the planet.
This week, in the same Finland, a presentation of a new book dedicated to Raikkonen took place. It is called “Iceman – Kimi’s Journey”, written by the famous Finnish journalist Heikki Kulta, who has been to 371 Grand Prix in his forty years of professional career, and it tells primarily about racing.
“I can say with full responsibility that this book is dedicated to the best pages of Kimi’s career. I wrote a book only about sports, and there are many comments made in different years by Raikkonen himself, – the author emphasized. – By the way, Kari Hotakainen also asked me questions about him, and Kimi himself advised him, saying: “Heikki is the only one who knows about all the races in which I competed”.
This is true: he met Raikkonen at the end of 2000, when it became clear that Kimi was about to debut in Formula 1 as part of the Sauber team. After that, Heikki had a rare opportunity to observe how this racer’s career developed over the course of all twenty years.
Of course, at the presentation of the book, Cult was asked: will Raikkonen continue to compete in Formula 1 next year?
“In 2016, 2017 and 2018, I said that this is Kimi’s last year in F1. Therefore, in 2019, I decided that I would not say that again. One thing is clear: he will no longer win races, championships and win pole positions, ”the author of the new book replied.
Time will tell whether it will be as popular as Kari Hotakainen’s work enjoyed.
