Two Los Angeles police officers are in critical condition after receiving several shots in what the authorities have described as “ambush”.
The Los Angeles sheriff’s office has released a video in which a man is seen approaching a police vehicle and shoot the agents, before running off.
The sheriff of the Californian city has called the act “cowardly”, while the author of the shots remains unaccounted for.
Of the agents it is known that they are a 31 year old woman and a man of 24.
US President Donald Trump shared the sheriff’s office report on Twitter and said: “Animals must be hit hard.”
In a later tweet, referring to the injured officers, he went further and said: “If they die, speedy trial and death penalty. It’s the only way to stop this! “
