A Bogota judge ordered this Saturday the freedom of former Colombian president Álvaro Uribe, in house arrest since last August 4 for a case of alleged procedural fraud and bribery of witnesses.
After presenting her arguments in detail, the Bogotá criminal judge with guarantees function, Clara Ximena Salcedo Duarte, announced her decision to “access the elevated request by the defense, supported by the Prosecutor’s Office and the representation of the Public Ministry. “
“And in that order and consequently will arrange immediate freedom of Dr. Álvaro Uribe Vélez, “said the judge, who clarified that the appeal is against that decision.
The ex-president will continue to be investigated even though he was at liberty, as the Government has insistently requested.
His lawyers have come out in favor of the Prosecutor’s Office restarting the investigations from the beginning. So that cancel what was previously dictated for the other judge, they will have to make a formal request.
