We had to wait until the third free practice at the Eifel Grand Prix of Formula 1 for the pilots to gain experience of the Nürburgring, which returned to the race calendar after seven years. In the final 60-minute practice, however, the usual cars finished in the lead.

The pilots were able to start circling on the German track at 7 degrees air and 12 degrees asphalt. This time no one was waiting, several of them immediately drove out of the pit lane as soon as the light turned green. The first measured laps ran quickly, as did the first lap times taken. The race management kept a close eye on the track in turn 4 of the track, as well as in the last sled.

After the first ten minutes, everyone had already taken their first meters on the track, with the exception of Lance Stroll: Racing Point’s Canadian didn’t feel good. According to the team’s announcement, the competitor is still being examined, but it may be that Nico Hülkenberg may be replaced by the pink squad again – the German arrived on the scene during the training.

After a quarter of an hour, Max Verstappen led the way with Red Bull, teammate Alexander Albon in a sandwich with Renault’s Esteban Ocon and Racing Point’s Mexican Sergio Perez. However, these lap times were still not authoritative, everyone was looking for the limits of grip: the difference between Sebastian Vettel, the fastest Dutchman and Ferrari, who was just in last place, was more than 7 seconds apart. The German turned the red race car anyway.

It took just half an hour to break the track record that had been in place since 2004: Ocon 1: 27,634 was just over a second ahead of the former frontrunner Verstappen, but the McLarenes Lando Norris soon took the glory away from the French. The British junior was only 3 thousand faster than Renault.

This did not mean the end of training, as the big ones were not connected to it at that time, Verstappen soon took the lead back. George Russell also wanted to put himself there, but the williamses almost threw the car away, only very slowly the car stopped on the still wet grass.

His teammate Nicholas Latifi also spun with Williams, but heading in the direction didn’t go easily in the final turn: the Canadian eventually completed the challenge with a Y round.

For the last twenty minutes, the long-awaited Mercedes drivers also put together their right laps, with Valtteri Bottas jumping in first and Lewis Hamilton jumping in third. Of the two, the Finn was more convincing, with the six-time world champion making several mistakes during training. At the time of the knockout, the Mercedes pair was in first two places, while to a minor surprise, Ferraris Charles Leclerc took third place and teammate Vettel finished fifth. The two red cars hugged Verstappen on the table.
